IILM since inception has always believed in overall development of students and educating them holistically rather than just making them literate in the area of management. To achieve this objective IILM offers Total Personality Development and Elective Courses which help in honing the skills beyond classrooms and board rooms.
Bridge Courses
At IILM Undergraduate College, we conduct bridge courses, prior to the commencement of the Bradford semester. At IILM, the semester devoted to bridge courses is primarily aimed at ensuring that students are effectively able to deal with the challenges presented to them. The bridge course semester extends for a period of 6 weeks. The rationale behind the courses included in this semester is two fold:
(1) To sensitize the students to the vagaries of the modern world and to learn to cope with the demands as posed by the global economy today.
(2) To improve learning by utilizing new knowledge and instructional techniques.
The most basic goals of an education at the undergraduate level remains the ability to think, write, and speak clearly; to reason critically; to solve problems; to work collaboratively; to acquire field-specific knowledge; and to acquire the judgment, analytic capacity, and independence of thought to support continued, self-driven, lifelong learning and engaged citizenship. These critical goals of education at the undergraduate level should be enduring and lasting.
The modules taught in the Bridge courses include:
— Maths
— MS Office / Open Office
— Accounting
— Soft Skills
— Economics
— Effective Learning Service
Workshops For Value Added Learning
Workshops combine training, development, team-building, communication, motivation and planning. They are highly effective in managing change and adding further value to students. Prior to the commencement of the Bradford session in September, we conduct workshops for our students in the areas of branding, stock market analysis, business across cultures, personality assessment and theatre. Workshops are designed to ensure overall development of the student.
Case Study Analysis
The Case Study presents an account of what happened to a business or industry over a number of years. It chronicles the events that managers have to deal with, such as changes in the competitive environment, and charts the managers response, which usually involves changing the business or corporate level strategy. Just as prospective doctors need to combine theoretical learning with clinical practice, so too, prospective managers also need to learn to apply theory and concepts to practical situations. It will provide students with first hand experience of organizational problems, so as to be able to appreciate and analyze the problems faced by many different companies and to understand how mangers deal with them. It helps students practically apply the concepts they have learned. The theory and concepts help reveal what is going on in the companies studied and allows the students to evaluate the solutions that companies adopt to deal with the problems.
Stock Market Analysis
Transfer of resources from those with idle resources to others who have a productive need for them is perhaps most efficiently achieved through the securities markets. Stated formally, securities markets provide channels for allocation of savings to investments and thereby decouple these two activities. As a result, the savers and investors are not constrained by their individual abilities, but by the economy's abilities to invest and save respectively, which inevitably enhances savings and investment in the economy. The Stock market provides a market place for purchase and sale of securities and thereby ensures transferability of securities, which is the basis for the joint stock enterprise system. The course covers an orientation towards Indian financial system, evolution and history of stock markets and SEBI's role & regulations.
Branding
Workshop on Brands - a workshop where students are given a deeper insight into the brands they use and how they further enhance one's personality and self.
Know Thyself
"The self is the individual as known to the individual"
Self includes what we know about ourselves and how we evaluate ourselves physically, morally, spiritually, materially and in relation to family, friends and work associates. In this fast moving world, we all find it difficult to spare time to stop and reflect on various life events. The art of achieving goals or objectives for life lie in understanding our self, building on our strengths and overcoming weaknesses.
Psychometric testing provides information on the individual's current and potential competence to perform a job successfully. It is a tool for one's introspection, self- exploration and self governance.
Business across Cultures
Business across cultures sensitized students on the growing importance of cross cultural communication and diversity management in the global business environment. Lectures, Quizzes and video clips on Cross cultural awareness, differences across cultures were used to deliver the workshop.
India on the Move
Rapid growth since 1980s has transformed India to stand among the 10 largest economies today. The workshop on Indian economy "India on the move "intends to develop a basic understanding regarding India's growth trajectory, its macro economic environment, institutions and policies and the present economic scenario. This one week workshop aims at equipping students in developing a macro view regarding business activities and an understanding of macro policies on the business they undertake.
