WORKSHOP ON DRUG ABUSE BY MAX HEALTH CARE

The well known Max Hospital had conducted a seminar for the student body of Under Graduate College – IILM Gurgaon, on the 22nd of January, 2008. The interactive program on Substance & Drug abuse was imparted by Ms. Amal Dev, consulting psychologist by MAX Health Care.

The program covered subjects and issues in systematic manner, covering issues such as meaning of being assertive, defining peer pressure, parental and other social pressures, mental and physical incapability and instability, and drugs, and the ways they are taken. The types of alcohols and their side effects were also discussed.

The program emphasized the need for accessible, effective means of engaging youth for whom alcohol and drug abuse is a problem. Ms. Amal interacted with the students who face significant problems with their use of alcohol and drugs. She attributed the addiction to drugs and alcohol to different circumstances such as self consciousness, assertiveness, peer pressure etc.

The frame work of the discussion was based on both practical and philosophical aspects in an interactive session with the student body of Under Graduate College – IILM Gurgaon

It’s a myth that women can consume the same amount of liquor as men…because the alcohol flows into the blood of women faster than men…." Amal was heard saying.

The program was a hit with the students because it didn't tell them that the consumption of any thing was wrong (respecting everyone's personal choices), but the harsh realities about the over consumption and overdose were tackled. The effects and side effects of alcohol and drugs were put down clearly for the students.

The success of the program was also due to the fact that Ms. Amal associated herself well with age group of the students. She also requested the faculty to give her some time alone with the students. With the absence of the teachers it became much easier for the students to open up to her with their true feelings and opinions and providing them a clearer picture to the objective of the holistic health program.
